Battlefield 6's Dueling Weapons Rulesets

short-reviews Aug 2, 2025

The decision to support both closed and open weapons rulesets in Battlefield 6 is a bold move that could appease a wide range of players. However, I fear the classic ruleset may not receive the attention it deserves compared to the more flexible loadouts. "It's a proper thing," said DICE's lead producer, but I question if this is truly a priority for them. The Portal mode designation for the closed weapons playlist seems to diminish its significance. While the freedom of weapon choice is exciting, it risks diluting class identities, a concern echoed by the developers themselves. Choice is nice, but traditionalists may feel sidelined as the game leans towards a Call of Duty-style experience. Overall, it's a balancing act that could either enhance or fracture the franchise's core identity. We'll have to wait and see how this plays out at launch.
